Who is blind?...

People who know me, know that I absolutely love John's Gospel... The words are super poetic and artistic... The way he flips words reminds me too much of a Hip Hop artist.  And so today in my daily Gospel reading I found myself in John 9 and was inspired to share with you all. Read specifically the first 3 lines...

"As he passed by he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?  Jesus answered, “Neither he nor his parents sinned; it is so that the works of God might be made visible through him."

Check out the irony in that!... This guy is blind so that others can SEE God.

I think of myself and how so many times I try to have a complete vision or have the perfect plan, but in many ways there are always "blind spots" or areas I'm never able to predict or foresee. In this however is God truly glorified as long as I am open to his work in me; even without having all of the accolades am I able to inspire and teach by his knowledge and his power.

Now fast forward to the last 3 lines of the chapter....

Then Jesus said, “I came into this world for judgment, so that those who do not see might see, and those who do see might become blind.” Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard this and said to him, “Surely we are not also blind, are we?” Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you are saying, ‘We see,’ so your sin remains.
Like the Pharisees at the end where it says that essentially because they don't acknowledge their own personal blindness they are still filled with sin. In acknowledging how small I am before God, and humbling and bowing before him can I be healed. I have personally recently been running into many people in Authoritative positions who look down on me and others like me who come from a different background/upbringing/culture than theirs. I have been hurt to see how the Gospel has been made exclusive due to some structural organization and has excluded many.

As I continue to grow in my faith and walk with God in his Church, I pray that I have the grace and the will to always surrender myself before him and allow him to be the one at work in me... Never on my own.

Pray with me for humility, and for the openness to the will of our Heavenly Father. All in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.
