Here is a small clip taken at Our Lady of Loretto's Confirmation BBQ for about 150 students. The Symbol comes to share live music and testimony; challenging them to live the mission in which God has called them to while still being themselves in their own culture.

A while back I did a video blog explaining about the thought process in "putting on shows" and I explained some of the criticism I get in using such language...

This past weekend I had a conversation with a good brother studying to be a deacon, and he asked if I had specifically wrote songs for performance purposes... My answer was yes! Honestly I do write and try to get the best recording quality possible, but for me they are created almost always through the lens of what it would be like performed LIVE.

Nothing takes away from the personal experience.

Everything I do is to be a light in this dark world.  I understand however that even in my own life as I am a sinner, my mistakes, fallings and failures could only serve as a place of learning for those around me.  I am in no way shape or form perfect, but this does not mean that I will not continue to seek perfection.... And invite you in to the journey with me for your own personal growth.

It is funny how I keep getting contacted for speaking engagements and shows, now not only in the church but in more secular venues who see that light that I am sharing and have asked for me to share in their spaces at their events.  It is ironic how I left the secular world in order to pursue my mission that God was calling me to as my own life was brought deeper into the church, but now people on the outside of the 4 visible walls of the church want the message even more sometimes than the people within.

I am in no way a celebrity... And in no way shape of form am I looking for "fans".... I only want for all of you to be inspired to "put on a show" for the world to see in your own lives.  I will never be the Symbol unless you are yourself.

Met with another brother who goes by the name of "Sage Love" from Brooklyn who considers himself a spiritual film maker thanks to a good friend of mine by the name Lashawn Marston aka "Suga Ray".  Suga Ray in himself is a community activist and artist who really gives his all to being a light in the more minority/impoverished communities.

I can't say too much yet, but it looks like all is love will collaborate with Sage Love and his production company in creating a documentary on Suga Ray's life and transformation from darkness to light.

I've been taken to places I thought I wouldn't before.  To be in a public High School talking about the importance of the arts in influencing culture and the need to understand the business side of things in building an arts based career.  I was able to speak about universal morals and values not held by mainstream media and how them going to an arts school could grow to be the ones who change that to bring more positivity into our culture.  

Please send goodness and light to these students here in the Bronx, as they continue to grow and build their lives to be contributing members of society.

This Friday, April 15th at St. Dominic's Church in the Bronx, I have the opportunity to share my art in yet another new way alongside my Idente community and some other amazing people.  This time visually there will be displayed some of my paintings and visual art pieces as well as we will be displaying my  music videos.

Enjoy with us an hour of prayer, song, reflection, and adoration followed by the art viewing and fellowship time.

Coming back to New York from these days down south in Texas really feels like yet another new chapter with a new depth and level of seriousness.

Spending a week with young people of all ethnic backgrounds and financial class by speaking to, performing, praying, and ministering helps you to tap in to the universal issues of today.  We touched on chastity, and good relationships as well as family, God, and things as deep as suicide.  To say the least there is truly a spiritual warfare taking place in a deep way today.

It always amazes and humbles me how I have been chosen for this work.  In so many ways I am the least qualified and yet God still keeps using me.  The hurt, pain, and brokenness universally felt by so many across the country affects me deeply and what makes it worse is the ones who have the financial means, "education", and higher seats of position really aren't doing anything about it.

I say this all to tell every young person from Christ the Good Shepherd that I love you and you are with me in my prayers. I say all of this to say that you all inspire me deeply and have moved me to go even deeper than ever before.  May the grace of God be with you to battle, and may every influence that is less than Holy be removed from your path. Amen.

"Thanks be to God we've been dug out of the dirt to be made Golden."

These words at the end of the title track off of the Golden EP, poetically draw a connection between the riches of the word and the true treasure of God which is all human life.  Like real gold, which is mined, then refined Jesus Christ came to earth with a mission to metaphorically "make us Golden" and employs those who become his disciples to continue this mission for their brothers and sisters.

2,016 years later the Church remains.... It is "Still Diggin".

Hip Hop culture emerged in the Bronx, Ny and was seen as just a fading fad that would soon die away however years later the culture has grown not only across America, but is internationally now the "greatest youth culture of the planet."

As a disciple of Christ, and as a citizen of Hip Hop culture The Symbol has recorded, released, performed, and traveled making music since the age of 6 years old... Yet this is his first album.
