This past weekend, I got to take Christian Ice Skating for the first time. He fell an busted his little booty a few times, but he learned to continue to get back up and keep going having fun.
You know I love the things that I do, being with other children and teaching, guiding, mentoring, creating art, etc . . . But these are the moments I live for. I made it just a me and Christian day. We went on our own and ice skated in the snow at the rink in Central Park up in Harlem. Life has been extra busy lately, but I have to put time aside for these things or else it all wouldn't matter. I haven't been online as much, and I have delayed on a few things, because there are some important daily things happening. I pray you all are inspired to live and be present as well, rather than always being plugged in to the web. Anyway, after our skating time I took a trip over the corner store and got us some 50 cent Bodega Hot Chocolate! We hopped on the 6 train and made our way back uptown to the Bronx and Christian spilled half of his cup all over himself and the train . . . A little frustration, but I guess these are #TheJoysOfFatherhood huh? . . . lol. - The Symbol - All is Love

So, those of you who may follow my work might know about me being a teaching artist here in NYC traveling to schools and teaching Peace Education through the arts, music, and theater. I have been asked many times what I do and, a lot of times people think it is pretty amazing work but can't wrap their minds around the practicalities of it. To be honest, it is really a free creative environment and the practical sides of it usually only come to me when it comes to show time or the production of work, otherwise I am just teaching artistic skills and going the kids a communal safe space to explore and express themselves openly. Kids, parents, and even school administration have loved my teaching and interaction with the children, but my one area of growth has needed to be this written aspect of it called lesson planning. You may hear the music my kids produce (http://kidscreative.bandcamp.com/) or may have seen videos like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMVZGXMw6u4) Recently, things have tightened up and I am not the type usually to do lesson plans. I mean even when I go to do shows I am kind of just going free-form and allowing spirit to drive my actions and moves. And to be honest, my classroom usually runs about the same way, and in the past even the times where I have written lesson plans, I have never used them. I felt inspired to share with you all here on my personal blog some long term goals I am working out now with a new style of Lesson plans I have recently learned. Maybe over time I will share for those educators who follow me, my class to class lesson plans in hopes that maybe this will also help some of you and you can apply some of these ideas for whatever it may be that you are called to teach. For now, enjoy . . . - The Symbol
- All is Love So, the weekend I was out in San Antonio I was there to build with people at the Destino Winter Conference(DWC). The first night I got there, I happened to be asked to host the Open Mic night and to perform. It was really an honor, and it gave me the opportunity to be in front of a group of young people from across the country to share a message of true love all while having good fun. The conference was great, and if it is God's plan I hope to be back again next year. (Who knows . . . Maybe with even more opportunity to share. lol)
For me to write about the whole weekend, it would be a lot, but those who I was able to connect and build with I am grateful for. It was definitely a Spiritually uplifting experience. For those of you who are in College and would like to know more about DWC for next year, and maybe for a Destino group to come to your campus check out - http://destinowinterconference.com/ and http://destinomovement.com ALSO . . . I can't forget to give a shouts out to my homie Nate Gicano for the gear. If you are feeling the tee I am rocking in the above pics, get your own at www.Chanclaville..com And click HERE for a few other cool pics from the conference (So you know, they are on Facebook) - The Symbol - All is Love Had a great time out in San Antonio Texas and I can't wait to be back. The youth were really open to the art and the message, and we just had a good time. Also got to meet in person and build with some of the brothers I had linked with through the internet before. It is always different sharing with someone in person, and that bond cannot be matched in any way by the use of technology. Enjoy a few pictures from the night.
- The Symbol - All is Love What's up Texas?!!! That's right, The Symbol is coming to you live this weekend along with a few of my brothers ready to shut it down! - The Symbol - All is Love Honestly, this was always the vision I just didn't know how I'd do it or how I would get there . . . Not to mention developing the disciplines to make it all happen. I am glad to say that this dream is now becoming a reality. Not because of me though - Only because of the one who works through me. I like to call 'em "#LOVE"
- The Symbol - All is Love So the other day on twitter I got tagged in this OLD flyer from my old teenage days, and I thought I should share it here. . . Its been a long time. And this is from way back when I was just "Feel-X" and we were just young NYC minority kids trying to express ourselves. Oh how I am grateful to have grown! #word - The Symbol
